CONDITION ASSESSMENT OF UCT'S UPPER CAMPUS STRUCTURES
The full thesis is available here
The University of Cape Town has some of the most imposing concrete structures that date back as far as the 1930’s. Due to the age of these structures, they are beginning to show various signs of damage and deterioration, often linked to reinforcement corrosion, low cover depths, delamination and cracking of plaster.
The continual degradation of the Upper Campus structures and the lack of an adequate maintenance schedule has resulted in the need for a full condition assessment of the structures to be carried out. The purpose of this research project is to present the results of a conditional assessment conducted on the reinforced concrete structures of UCT’s Upper Campus.
