​Sustainability is a growing concern in modern society.  The adverse effects of climate change have resulted in governments and industries searching for means to reduce their environmental impact.

The Civil Engineering Industry can also have a impact on the environment. The manufacture of cement is a major contributor to the worlds Greenhouse Gas (GHG) levels. The rapid growth of civil infrastructure has also lead to a negative impact on the surrounding environment especially in urban areas.

The question still remains as to which tool would be the most successful in assessing these environmental concerns and how can improvements be made to achieve a higher level of sustainability within the Civil Engineering Industry.
